Doctor Louis Contencin was an appreciated doctor during his long career in Martigues. Attached to the culture of his city, he was one of the promoters of the Ziem art gallery, of which he was the curator until its death in 1975 at the age of 99. A man of great erudition, he worked for the artistic development of Martigues. He was responsible for the restoration of the baroque chapel of the Annonciade and also produced a retrospective of Ziem's works. When he died, his family bequeathed their library to the City.
These works (466 titles) have been integrated into the media library collections and constitute the “Contencin donation”.
This collection consists mainly of books published between 1920 and 1960 dealing with politics, political philosophy, the history of religions, international relations and the history of the Second World War. The authors are mainly personalities of the right and the French far-right including prominent figures of the Collaboration or theorists of anti-Semitism or even negationism (Georges Montandon, Xavier Vallat, Lucien Rebatet, Jacques Laval, Alphonse de Châteaubriant, Fernand Querrioux, Paul Rassinier ... and texts such as The Protocols of the Sages of Zion).
These books are identified by a specific classificaiton number and are stocked in reserve. They can be viewed or borrowed on demand.
